Finn Now Remembers Your Business, Learns Your Preferences, and Closes Your Books
AccountsOS shipped long-term memory, proactive insights, variance analysis, preference learning, and automated month-end close. Your AI CFO just got significantly smarter.
Quick Answer
Finn now remembers context about your business across every conversation, proactively surfaces financial insights, learns how you categorise transactions, and helps close your books each month. You can see and edit everything Finn remembers.
The Problem with Most Accounting Software
Every time you open your accounting tool, it has no idea who you are. It does not know that you changed accountants last month, that you are VAT-registered on the flat-rate scheme, that "MP INT.COM" is your biggest client, or that you always categorise Notion as a software subscription.
You explain the same things over and over. Or worse, you stop explaining and the software just gets it wrong.
We shipped a set of features this week that fix this. Finn now has long-term memory, proactive intelligence, and the ability to learn from how you work.
What Changed
1. Finn Remembers Your Business
Every conversation with Finn now contributes to a persistent memory. When you mention that your financial year ends in March, that you invoice in EUR but report in GBP, or that you are waiting on a VAT refund, Finn writes that down.
The next time you ask a question, that context is already there. No re-explaining. No "as I mentioned last time". Finn just knows.
What Finn remembers is qualitative: preferences, decisions, people, recurring questions, insight conclusions. Finn does not store your financial figures in memory. Your actual numbers live in the ledger where they belong, computed fresh every time.
2. Proactive Insights
Finn now analyses your books automatically and surfaces things you should know about. After a bulk bank import or at the start of each month, Finn looks at your data and tells you:
- Your best and worst revenue months, and whether there is a seasonal pattern
- Which counterparties you spend the most with, and whether any are creeping up
- Your net cash trend: are you gaining or losing ground month over month
- Categorisation gaps: what percentage of your transactions are still uncategorised
- Late payers: which customers are consistently slow and what your average collection time looks like
Each insight comes with a specific observation, an explanation of why it matters, and a concrete action you can take. These are not vague summaries. They are the kind of things a good CFO would mention in a monthly catch-up.
3. What Changed This Month
The Reports section now has a "What Changed" tab. Open it for any month and you get a plain-English breakdown of what moved compared to the previous month.
If your software costs jumped 40%, Finn tells you exactly which transactions drove the increase. If revenue dipped, Finn identifies the specific categories and counterparties responsible.
This is variance analysis, the thing your accountant does (or should do) when reviewing your management accounts. Finn does it automatically, every month, across every category in your chart of accounts.
4. Learning Your Preferences
Every time you categorise a transaction, correct a category, or confirm one of Finn's suggestions, Finn learns from it. Over time, the categorisation gets more accurate because it reflects how you actually run your books, not a generic rulebook.
If you always put Notion under "Software Subscriptions" and Uber under "Travel", Finn picks up on that pattern. The preferences are applied across every import path: CSV uploads, bank feeds, email forwarding, and messaging attachments.
You can see what Finn has learned on the Memory page and edit or remove any preference.
5. Automated Month-End Close
On the 2nd of every month, Finn reviews the previous month and tells you how close it is to being "closed":
- What percentage of transactions are categorised and reconciled
- A list of specific exceptions: uncategorised transactions, low-confidence AI categorisations you have not reviewed, unreconciled items, expenses over the receipt threshold with no supporting document, and open VAT items
Finn presents this as a confidence score with a clear breakdown. If the month is 100% clean, Finn tells you so. If there are five things to review, Finn lists them. You can approve the close directly from the chat, and Finn locks the period.
This replaces the manual month-end checklist that most small business owners either forget about entirely or spend a Sunday afternoon dreading.
6. You Can See Everything Finn Remembers
This matters. You can visit the Memory page in your dashboard at any time and see exactly what Finn knows about your business. Every preference, every company profile detail, every insight conclusion.
You can edit any of it. You can delete any of it. Finn's memory is transparent by design. It is your data, and you control what stays and what goes.
Why This Matters
Traditional accounting software is stateless. You are a row in a database. It processes your transactions and forgets you exist.
A good CFO, on the other hand, builds context over time. They remember your business model, your pain points, your preferences, your patterns. They notice when something changes and tell you about it before you ask. They close the books methodically and flag anything that needs your attention.
That is what Finn does now. Not perfectly, not for every edge case, but consistently and automatically, across every conversation, every import, every month.
