Bookkeeping software Egypt: bank statements, receipts and the e-invoice rule
Finn keeps the books of an Egyptian company in EGP. Bank statements come in as CSV or PDF from any bank, and Finn categorises every line using what it knows about your business. Receipts and supplier e-invoices can be sent by WhatsApp, email, Telegram or Slack, and Finn posts the supplier, date, amount and VAT for you to review.
The ETA e-invoice system is mandatory for business sales, and since 1 July 2022 VAT on a paper invoice cannot be deducted except in the cases the regulations allow. AccountsOS does not issue ETA e-invoices or e-receipts, and a PDF invoice from AccountsOS is not an Egyptian tax invoice. You issue the legal document through the ETA portal or your provider, and Finn records it and reconciles the payment.
Every transaction is posted to a double-entry ledger, so your profit and loss, balance sheet and VAT figures come from the same numbers. When something is unclear, such as a payment with no reference or a cost that might be private, Finn asks you a short question in chat instead of guessing, and remembers your answer for the next time.
- Sent invoices: issue them in your ETA tool, then Finn records them and matches the payment.
- Received invoices: forward the supplier's e-invoice and Finn posts it as a bill for review.
- Purchase VAT: Finn flags any cost without a valid e-invoice behind it.
15 NovThe Salary tax, October lands on 15 Nov. Finn puts it on your calendar and reminds you ahead of it.
VAT return software: the 14% rate, Form 10 and registration
The general VAT rate is 14% under VAT Law 67 of 2016, with the Schedule Tax on listed goods and services and a list of exempt supplies. Registration is mandatory once taxable and exempt sales over the last 12 months reach EGP 500,000, and importers for trade, exporters and distribution agents register whatever their turnover.
The tax period is one month, and Form 10 is filed during the following month, so the December return is due by 31 January. Simplified-regime members file quarterly. Finn writes the dates for your frequency, watches your rolling 12-month sales against the threshold and prepares the VAT working from your books. You or your accountant file and pay through the ETA.
Egyptian Tax Authority compliant accounting: corporate tax at 22.5%
Companies pay corporate income tax at 22.5% of taxable profit under the Income Tax Law 91 of 2005. The return is filed electronically by 30 April for a calendar-year company, or within four months of a different year-end, and the tax is paid within the legal deadline. Dividends paid to shareholders carry a 10% tax, except between resident companies.
Finn estimates corporate tax from your ledger and shows it as an estimate, never as a filed return. The adjustments from accounting profit to taxable profit are your accountant's call, and Finn lays out the figures they need.
Finn also keeps an eye on the things that catch Egyptian companies out: a dividend paid without the 10% tax set aside, a return filed on the individual date instead of the company date, or late payment that builds a late payment charge under the Unified Tax Procedures Law. Each figure Finn quotes comes with the ETA or Ministry of Finance page it relies on, and anything it cannot confirm from an official source it says so plainly.
The simplified regime under Law 6 of 2025
A business with annual turnover up to EGP 20 million can join a permanent simplified regime and pay income tax as a percentage of turnover: 0.4% for turnover under EGP 500,000, rising to 1.5% for turnover under EGP 20 million. Members get no full tax audit for five years, quarterly VAT returns, annual payroll returns and exemptions from stamp tax, dividend tax and capital gains tax.
Joining needs an application on the ETA website, and staying in needs the e-invoice and e-receipt systems. Finn asks whether you have joined rather than assuming it, tracks turnover against the ceiling and switches your VAT reminders to quarterly when you confirm.
Payroll: salary tax, Form 4 and social insurance
Employers calculate salary tax every month through the ETA unified payroll system and pay it within 15 days after the month. Pay is annualised, the EGP 20,000 personal exemption and the employee's social insurance share come off, and the Article 8 brackets apply. Form 4 is filed in January, April, July and October, and Form 41 reports tax withheld on supplier payments every quarter.
Social insurance under Law 148 of 2019 is shared between employer and employee on an insurable wage of EGP 2,700 to EGP 16,700 a month in 2026, and a new employee must be insured within two weeks. Finn tracks the dates, checks the insurable wage against the year's limits and posts payroll journals from your payroll report.
Bracket amounts and the employer and employee split of social insurance change, so Finn does not quote them from memory. The ETA payroll system and NOSI are the sources, and Finn records what they produce.
Company formation and identifiers: GAFI, the Commercial Register and the TRN
Companies are formed through GAFI's incorporation services and entered in the Commercial Register. The usual forms are the LLC (2 to 50 partners), the joint stock company (at least three founders), the one-person company, the sole proprietorship, partnerships and the branch of a foreign company. GAFI has reformed minimum capital rules, so Finn points you to GAFI for current figures.
Every taxpayer has a Tax Registration Number on its tax card. Finn records your TRN and Commercial Register number at setup and uses your entity type and year-end to set the right deadlines.
Free zones, the Suez Canal Economic Zone and sector licences have their own rules. Finn tells you when a question goes beyond what it covers and suggests confirming it with GAFI, the zone authority or your accountant.
Switching to Finn from spreadsheets or desktop software
Most small Egyptian businesses keep their books in spreadsheets or desktop software and hand a folder to their accountant at the year-end. Moving to Finn starts with an export: your chart of accounts, open invoices and contacts as CSV files, and your bank statements as CSV or PDF. Finn reads each file, works out what it is and maps it to your new ledger.
Accountancy practices can bring clients across one at a time, allocate them to staff and see every client's deadlines in one list. Finn does the production work and your accountants review and sign.
