How it works

Finn runs the company's books all year. You sign off at each step.

  1. 01

    The books stay current

Bank feeds sync every day, every payment gets categorised, and receipts and invoices match to the line that paid them. You only see what needs a decision.

  2. 02

    VAT, filed on time

Finn works out your VAT return from the books and files it straight to HMRC through Making Tax Digital.

  3. 03

    Pay yourself properly

Run payroll, record a dividend, and keep the director's loan account straight, all from one place.

  4. 04

    Year end, prepared for you

Finn drafts your annual accounts and works out your Corporation Tax from the year's books. You review, then you or your accountant files.

Books kept up to date

The books, current without you touching them.

Connect your business bank account and Finn brings in every transaction, works out what it is, and matches it to the invoice or receipt behind it. Any bank you can't connect, drop in the statement instead.

  • Starling, Revolut, Wise, Mercury and Qonto sync every day
  • Every transaction categorised using what Finn knows about your company
  • Your own rules, like "Uber is travel", are always applied first
  • Anything Finn isn't sure about waits in one short list for you

Paying yourself

Salary, dividends and the loan account, straight.

Run payroll and Finn calculates the pay and produces payslips. Record a dividend and it generates the paperwork. Ask about your director's loan account any time and get the actual balance, not a guess.

  • Payroll runs calculated and payslips generated for every employee
  • Dividend records with the paperwork generated automatically
  • A live director's loan account balance, always to the penny
  • Ask Finn for this year's tax rates and thresholds before you decide how to pay yourself

What's my director's loan account balance?

You're owed £2,140.00 by the company. If you're thinking about a dividend, I can pull this year's tax rates and show you the numbers first.

Year end

Accounts drafted, Corporation Tax worked out.

Finn prepares your annual accounts under FRS105 and works out your Corporation Tax from the year's books, flagging anything odd along the way. You review the draft, then you or your accountant files it.

  • A full draft, not a blank form: balance sheet, profit and loss and the notes
  • Corporation Tax worked out from your actual books, ready for your return
  • Anomalies, like an unusually large transaction, flagged for you to check
  • The prior year's filed accounts pulled in automatically as the comparative

FAQ

Limited companies: common questions

Salary or dividends, which is better?

It depends on your numbers and the current tax year's rates. Ask Finn in chat and it pulls the current thresholds and allowances so you can see where you stand, alongside your actual director's loan account balance.

What's my director's loan account?

The running balance of money you've drawn from or put into the company outside salary and dividends. Finn keeps it up to date from the books and you can ask for the balance at any time.

What happens at year end?

Finn drafts your annual accounts under FRS105 and works out your Corporation Tax from the year's books. You review the draft, then you or your accountant files it with Companies House and HMRC.

Is Corporation Tax actually filed for me?

Finn works out the figures and prepares your CT600 workpapers, but does not file the return to HMRC. You or your accountant submits it, using the numbers Finn has already worked out.

Do I still need an accountant?

Plenty of directors run AccountsOS on their own. If you already work with an accountant, Finn keeps the books and drafts the year end, and hands your accountant clean figures instead of a shoebox of receipts.

What does it cost?

£20/month + VAT, 14 days free to start, no card needed. Everything on this page is included, there's no extra module to buy.

Is VAT really filed straight to HMRC?

Yes. AccountsOS is HMRC-recognised software for Making Tax Digital VAT, and Finn files your return directly through HMRC's service.
