What is MCP?

Model Context Protocol: Anthropic's open standard for connecting AI assistants to external tools and data. Claude Desktop is the first major client to support it. AccountsOS ships an official MCP server.

How do I install it?

`npx @thriveventurelabs/accountsos-mcp init` will install and walk you through linking it to Claude Desktop in about a minute.

Is it safe?

API keys are scoped to your user and revocable at any time. We support a read-only mode that exposes no write tools. API key usage is tracked (last used, request count).

Can Claude Desktop modify my books?

Only if you enable write mode. Even then, every write requires Claude to call a tool that returns a confirmation request: you tap to approve before anything happens.

Will this work with ChatGPT or Gemini?

As soon as those clients ship native MCP, yes: the same server will work. Today, Claude Desktop is the primary client, plus any other MCP-compliant tool like Cursor or Cline.
