Yes: Fully Claimable

Can I Claim Marketing and Advertising as a Business Expense in France?

Yes. Advertising, websites, events and promotional costs are deductible, and the VAT on a French invoice can be deducted. Gifts follow their own rules and need care.

Typical claim: Varies widely. Record every ad platform invoice by month so the CA3 and the accounts agree.

What Direction générale des Finances publiques (DGFiP) says

Money spent to win and keep customers is a company cost when it serves the business and is documented. Online advertising, search and social ads, a website, a logo, printed material, sponsorship, trade-show stands and agency fees all qualify. The invoice must be in the company's name, and the VAT it shows is deductible on the CA3 when the company is registered for VAT. Advertising bought from a supplier in another EU country, or from a platform based outside France, often arrives without French VAT; the company may have to declare that VAT itself on the CA3, so make sure your expert-comptable sees those invoices. Gifts to clients and prospects are treated more strictly. They are deductible when they are in the interest of the business, but there are limits and reporting rules for the value given to each person, and the VAT on them has its own conditions in the BOFiP. If you are not sure, ask before buying a hamper for fifty clients. Commission paid to a person for a sale or a referral is a fee, and it can bring a DAS2 once the total to one beneficiary is above EUR 2,400 in a year.

Good to know

Pro tip: Keep a short list of gifts with the name of the recipient, the date and the reason. If the value is more than a token, ask your expert-comptable before spending.

Important: Commission paid to individuals can need a DAS2 in January. AccountsOS flags the running total per person so the date is not a surprise.
