# Final Company Income Tax Return

Country: Uganda
When: Within six months after year-end: 31 December for a 30 June year-end.
Tax year: Year of income 1 July to 30 June

The annual income tax return of a Ugandan company, filed within six months after the end of the year of income. It is the year's final word on the company's income tax: provisional tax paid during the year and withholding tax suffered are credited, and the balance is paid or a refund claimed.

## Who this applies to

- Private and public limited companies, single member companies and branches of foreign companies
- Companies on a substituted year file six months after their own year-end

## What to file

The final return reporting chargeable income, tax at 30%, and credits for provisional tax and withholding tax suffered.

## How to file

Online through the URA portal using the company's TIN. AccountsOS does not submit to the Uganda Revenue Authority. You or your accountant file on the URA portal. Finn keeps the date on your calendar, reminds you before it falls due and shows the figures from the books your accountant needs.

## Payment due

Any balance is paid by the same date. An extension of up to 90 days moves filing only, not payment.

## What happens if you miss it

Late filing: the higher of 2% of the tax or UGX 200,000 for each month late. Late payment: interest of 2% a month.

## Submission checklist

- Close the books for the year and agree the bank balances
- List provisional tax paid and withholding tax certificates
- Work out the tax adjustments with your accountant
- File and pay by the due date

## Documents you need

- Financial statements for the year
- Tax computation
- Withholding tax credit certificates
- Provisional tax payment records

## Common mistakes to avoid

- Forgetting to claim withholding tax already suffered
- Treating an extension as extra time to pay
- Using the wrong year when the company has a substituted year of income
- Leaving the return until the last week of December, when the URA portal is busiest
