# Quarterly BAS: Q2 (Oct–Dec)

Country: Australia
When: 28 February 2027 for the 2026-27 year. The Q2 deadline moves from 28 January to 28 February to allow for the holiday period, and there is no further online or agent extension on top of that date.

Business Activity Statement covering October to December. Reports GST, PAYG withholding, PAYG instalments and FBT instalments for the quarter. The Q2 BAS is also the point to check that PAYG instalment amounts still suit the business after a half year of trading. A business can vary its instalment if it expects a much lower or higher income than the ATO's estimate, and it must take care not to vary too low.

## Who this applies to

- All GST-registered businesses
- Employers with PAYG withholding
- Companies with PAYG instalments

## What to file

Standard BAS form including GST, PAYG W/H and PAYG instalment fields. The form reports GST on sales (G1), GST on purchases (G10 and G11), PAYG withholding (W1 and W2), PAYG instalments (T1 or T2) and, where the business has a quarterly FBT instalment, the FBT amount.

## How to file

Via ATO Online Services or accounting software. Lodge online in ATO Online services for business, in myGov for sole traders, or through BAS-enabled accounting software. A registered tax or BAS agent can lodge on the client's behalf.

## Payment due

28 February: same date as the BAS.

## What happens if you miss it

FTL penalty of 1 penalty unit per 28 days late, up to 5 units. The unit is A$364 for documents due on or after 1 July 2026, so the cap is A$1,820 for an ordinary lodger. The general interest charge also applies to unpaid amounts, at 11.43% a year for July to September 2026 and updated each quarter.

## Submission checklist

- Account for any holiday season GST adjustments
- Reconcile to bank statements through 31 December
- Lodge and pay by 28 February
- Confirm FBT year (1 April – 31 March) impacts on FBT instalments

## Documents you need

- Sales and purchase records for October to December
- Payroll and PAYG withholding summaries
- PAYG instalment notice
- Bank reconciliation to 31 December

## Common mistakes to avoid

- Assuming the Q2 BAS gets an extra online or agent extension: the 28 February date already includes the extension
- Leaving GST on year-end gifts and holiday party costs unchecked: input credits are denied on non-deductible entertainment
